Tony Martin chiude col ciclismo agonistico. Il tedesco – classe 1985 – ha deciso di chiudere con la specialità che più di tutte gli ha regalato gioie e soddisfazioni, la cronometro. La prova mondiale contro il tempo Mista Relay di Fiandre 2021 – conclusa con la conquista della medaglia d’oro – ha segnato l’ultimo atto di una carriera sontuosa dove brillano i quattro titoli iridati a cronometro individuale. Agli allori mondiale di aggiunge la medaglia d’argento alle spalle di Bradley Wiggins alla crono dei Giochi Olimpici di Londra.

Non solo lotta contro le lancette per Martin, ma anche successi di prestigio nelle gare in linea come la classifica generale della Parigi Nizza 2011. Nelle grandi Classiche monumento non ha mai colto risultati di prestigio, ma ha saputo in più occasioni mettersi al servizio dei propri capitani. Un lavoro sempre efficace.
