Cronaca – Settima tappa da Vasto a L’Aquila (185 km) con arrivo in lieve ascesa. Dopo 55 km si ritira Fernando Gaviria, velocista dell’Uae (4 successi di tappa al Giro 2017) costretto ad abbandonare per dolori ad un ginocchio. La fuga di oggi catapulta in avanscoperta 19 uomini, poi ridotti a 10 unità: Rojas, Pedrero, Gallopin, Cattaneo, Zeyts, Bilbao, Formolo, McCarthy, Hamilton ed Henao. Si sale verso il capoluogo abruzzese. Scaramucce tra i primi, poi cerca di anticipare tutti lo spagnolo Rojas, ma viene ripreso.
Ultimi 1.200 metri durissimi, Bilbao azzecca il jolly – Poco prima dello strappo (-1,4) parte Pello Bilbao, inizialmente nessuno risponde. Lo spagnolo dell’Astana resiste al ritorno di Tony Gallopin e Davide Formolo e conclude vittorioso. Valerio Conti mantiene la maglia rosa.
